Ryan G. Gosciejew, 28, former Sheffield Lake resident, Colorado outdoorsman/musician


Ryan G. Gosciejew, 28, a former resident of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, who worked for the Back Packers Shop in Sheffield Village from 1995-2001, died June 27, 2009.

For the last eight years, the Cleveland native lived in Fraser, Colo.

Ryan, who enjoyed rock climbing, snow boarding and mountain biking, worked for Winter Park Ski Resort in Colorado. He was an official cave rescuer for the State of Colorado and cave surveyor for the University of Colorado. He participated in an international caving expedition in Mexico.

He also was an abstract artist and played drums with several bands in Colorado. Friends in Colorado called Ryan a powerful influence in the outdoor and musical community of Manitou Springs, Colo.

Survivors include his parents Stanley and Denise Gosciejew of Sheffield Lake; sister, Leah (Dan) Huszai of Cleveland, Ohio; and grandmother, Stephanie Gosciejew of Lakewood, Ohio. Ryan also was the grandson of the late George Gosciejew and Rey and Hilda Jones.

Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, Ohio.

A prayer service will be held 10:15 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, followed at 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1878 Abbe Rd., Sheffield Village, Ohio.
